Compiled from documents of the Legh family, a gentry family seated at Lyme Park from 1398 until 1946, when the stately home and its surrounding parkland were donated by the 3rd Lord Newton to The National Trust. The house is the largest in Cheshire with a gateway to the north front of the house which the architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner referred to as "the craziest Elizabethan frontispiece". Written by William Beamont, an English solicitor and local philanthropist. In the original quarter cloth with paper boards. Externally, sound with light shelf wear and minor chipping to the extremities. Splits in the cloth to the joints and light loss to the head and tail of the spine. Marks to the boards and light sunning to the paper. Hinges starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with light age toning to the extremities. Library bookplate to the front pastedown. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
