'The Great Rolls of the Pipe' was reproduced from the original rolls under the care of Joseph Hunter, in the original Latin with title page in English. This work provides a financial history of the second, third and fourth years of the reign of King Henry the Second in A. D. 1155-1158. The 'Great Rolls of the Pipe' refers to a collection of financial records that were maintained by the English Exchequer that were written on rolls of parchment. 'A Description of The Patent Rolls in The Tower of London' presents an introduction to the Patent Rolls, and then provides more detail on specific information mentioned in some of the rolls. With a presentation label to the front paste down, stating 'This Volume is presented by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury&apos.With Cardiff Public Library bookplates to the front paste down and front endpapers, alongside various other library labels. In the original publisher's moire cloth. Externally, sound, with slight rubbing to the hinges and slight bumping to the extremities. Discolouration to the spine and extremities. Loss to the backstrip and spine label of 'The Great Roll of the Pipe', with hinges strained. Front hinge failed and rear hinge strained to 'Description of the Patent Rolls&apos. Tear to the head of the spine, with slight loss to 'Description of the Patent Rolls&apos. Library bookplates to front paste down and endpapers. Internally, generally firmly bound.
