We are most excited about your autumn migration notes + should like, very much, to have details of species etc for comparison - we hope they will be published somewhere. We are most grateful to your for all the notes you have sent us from Tongue + shall look forward to hearing from Golspie where we hope you will be very happy. Yours sincerely, Evelyn V. It does help to know that Miss Rintoul's work + personality are so widely appreciated. We shall miss her badly. Again many thanks for your kindness, Yours v. sincerely Evelyn V. Baxter&apos. This touching letter follows Rintoul's passing on the 22nd May 1953. Dr. Ian Durance Pennie was a Scottish ornithologist and physician, who co-founded the Scottish Ornithologists' Club. He contributed essays on a variety of important journals.A chronicle of the history, present distribution, and migration of all the birds of Scotland, trailing around the beautiful country from the south-west up to Caithness. The authors, Evelyn V. Baxter and Leonora Jeffrey Rintoul, look into the idea that the bird-life of Scotland fluctuates considerably, and more than any other European country.Illustrated with a colour frontispiece to each volume, one colour folding map to the rear of Volume II, eleven monochrome plates to Volume I, and thirteen monochrome plates to Volume II.Rintoul and Baxter were lifelong friends and co-authors of various ornithological works.Collated, complete.Typed letter from noted seabird scientist Bill Bourne addressed to Pennie loosely inserted, dated the 2nd October 1965. In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrappers. Externally, smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spines, small tear to the head of the front joint. Light marks to the rear board of Volume II, with a small patch of cockling to the fore edge. A few scattered spots to the fore edges and spots. Bookplate to the front paste downs. Dust wrappers are edge worn with small closed tears, heavier to Volume I. Aged taped to the head of the wraps of Volume I. Dust wrappers are discoloured and spotted, including some spotting to the reverse. Light blue marks to the rear wrap of Volume I and to the front wrap of Volume II. Internally, firmly bound.
