[John Corry]; [Thomas Troughton] - The History of Liverpool from the Earliest Authenticated Period

Title: The History of Liverpool from the Earliest Authenticated Period
Description: London, W. Robinson, 1810. Hardback. A very scarce early edition of this illustrated work regarding the history of Liverpool, by Thomas Troughton. Very scarce. With sixty three plates. Lacking the frontispiece, six further plates and the two vanishingly scarce maps. Collated from copies held at the HathiTrust. The first Robinson edition. Often referred to as 'Troughton's History of Liverpool' the anonymous work is typically attributed to Thomas Troughton, who published the first edition of the work. This Robinson edition is the first to include a list of contents and title page, alongside additional plates. The work was originally published with maps meant for framing, which meant that most copies, as with this one, were not bound with the maps present. A thorough work regarding the history of Liverpool, including reference to the castle, early censuses and its importance as a trading city. In quarter calf. Externally worn. Front board detached but present. Marks to boards. Internally binding strained. Plate entitled 'This View of Liverpool as it Appeared in 1650' and first four leaves detached but present. Scattered spotting. Amateur tape reinforcements to the occasional leaf. Evidence of worming. Fair . Ill.: Not Stated. Fair .
