William Falconer - The Shipwreck

Title: The Shipwreck
Description: London , John Sharpe, 1927. Leather. Handsomely bound in diced calf. Handsomely bound in diced calf. An epic poem by William Falconer. This poem recounts the final voyage of the merchant ship Britannia and her crew. It consists of three cantos. The Shipwreck was first published in 1762.Following its success Falconer made considerable changes to its second edition expanding and enlarging it. Though this is a form of fiction it is based on the everyday working of an 18th century merchant ship. An element of truth is hidden in this fictional depiction of shipwrecks. Handsomely bound in diced calf. Externally very smart. Rubbing to the spine resulting in loss. Missing the spine label. Internally firmly bound. The odd spot on the first and last pages but generally pages are bright and clean. Contemporary gift inscription to the first leaf. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
