His childhood on a small Wiltshire farm had a great influence on him and provides the background to all his major works of fiction, but his walks near his later home in Surbiton also inspired some of the essays in this book. These works originally appeared in various magazines, including 'Fraser's Magazine' and 'Longmans Magazine&apos. They were published posthumously in this form. Comprised of twelve essays. With a frontispiece of a photograph taken by J. Owen, of the Margaret Thomas's bust of Richard Jefferies in Salisbury Cathedral.Includes twenty-four pages of advertisements to the rear.
