Figuier was a French scientist and writer, with this work being translated from the original French. The work provides a description of the ocean, marine animals and the way humans work and live off the ocean, including an overview of the use of sea salts and the fishing industry. Undated. Dated by a copy held at the British Library. In a full calf prize binding for 'Boston Grammar School&apos. Externally very smart with marks to the boards, slight rubbing to the spine, joints and extremities and light fading to the spine. Missing front free endpaper with the odd minor mark to the rear pastedown. Internally firmly bound with bright pages with light spotting throughout, heavier to the front and rear.
