Collated, all plates are present, including the dark plates.Bound without half-title.'Little Dorrit' follows Amy Dorrit, who was born and raised in the Marshalsea debtors prison. It was originally published in monthly instalments over nineteen months, and this is the first edition published in book form.Charles Dickens is possibly the most well-known Victorian author, with his fifteen novels still being widely read and performed, as well as being studied in school and enjoyed by people of all ages.Illustrated by Hablot Knight Browne, most often known by his penname 'Phiz&apos. As Phiz, he illustrated many of Dickens' novels, including 'David Copperfield', 'Dombey and Son', and 'Bleak House', as well as illustrating for 'Punch' throughout his life. In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, rubbed. Small cracks to the head and tail of the front joint, and a larger crack to the tail of the rear joint, resulting in the leather to be lifting. Minor bumping to the extremities, lighter bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Spine is a little faded. Rubbing has resulted in a little loss of paper to the extremities. Hinges are a little strained but remain firm. Internally, generally firmly bound, with a few leaves detaching. Pages are lightly age toned, with some spots, including to the plates. Light tide mark to the margin of the frontispiece, engraved title, and to the margins of the plates facing pages 594 and 624.
