First edition, in the publisher's original cloth binding, with gilt motif to the front board. Written by English ornithologist and naturalist, James Edmund Harding, this work contains his many different thoughts on various aspects of nature. Harding was best remembered for his writings on nature, as well as being editor of several British periodicals on natural history. This work is comprised of chapters on sheep-dogs, the domestic cat, deer-leaps and fishing, amongst many others. With eighty-one illustrations throughout, including vignettes and full-page.With an ink inscription to the front endpaper, of 'To dear "Laddie" from Uncle Ben' dated 12th July 1914. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with gilt motif to the front board. Externally, generally smart, with light rubbing to the extremities and to the joints. Light bumping to the extremities and the occasional mark to boards. Front hinge slightly strained but holding firm. Offsetting and light age toning to endpapers. Ink inscription to front endpaper.
