The memoir was written after his death by C. Innes to celebrate his life with the help of his eldest daughter who compiled the materials needed to make this work.Book plate from the Gladstone Library to the front pastedown. In the publisher's original cloth. Externally generally smart with minor marks to the boards, fading to the spine resulting in loss to the gilt title, bumping to the extremities, a 1 inch closed tear to the head of the spine and minor loss to the cloth to the head and tail of the spine. Light handling marks to the end papers with book plate from the 'National Library Club' to the front pastedown. Hinges held by cords but generally firm. Internally binding loosening in places with pages 145 to 160 disbound but present. Pages generally bright and clean with only light age toning to the extremities.
