Boyle was one the most important female illustrators of the 1860's and was known for her watercolour children's book illustrations. She always signed her works, including her literary works, with E.V.B to obscure her identity. Boyle often wrote works related to gardening and nature. In the original publisher's full vellum. Externally generally smart with handling marks, a small red mark to the rear board and a small closed tear, light creasing and fading to the spine.
