The first edition of this work in a half calf binding, with the gilt crest of St. John's College, Lancashire to the front board, and marbled end papers and edges. Prize bookplate to the front paste down, dated 1898. Sir Edwin Arnold (1832-1904) was an English poet and journalist, best known for The Light of Asia. This work is a collection of reprints of his essays and articles which were published in the Daily Telegraph, and in other journals and magazines. These articles contain accounts of travel in Japan, Israel, and Africa, among other places, and are illustrated throughout with the author's photographs and illustrations by Ben Boothby. In a half calf binding. Externally smart, with a little rubbing to the extremities and the joints. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd spot. Very Good Indeed .
