In particular, he wrote a series entitled Books for Boys, of which this novel is a part of. Griffin travelled and worked in many places, including San Remo, while working as a locum pharmacist. In 'The Treasure of Gems', protagonist Ralph Coombe sails from Bristol to Martavan, beyond the Ocean of the Indies, after being summoned by his Uncle Roger, a rich trader. The story follows their search for treasure and the many dangerous encounters they have along the way. With five illustrative plates, by British artist and draughtsman Ellis Silas. This includes a colour frontispiece. Collated, complete.With Books for Boys advertisements to the rear of the dust wrapper. Light fading to the extremities, with a patch of fading to the spine. Offsetting to front endpapers. Dust wrapper in good condition with chipping and the odd tear to the extremities.
