While Deighton has written a number of works, including cookery books and historical work, he is best known for his spy novels. This work is the 5th novel in the 'unnamed her' series. The story is initially set in Paris and inspiration for the title was taken from Oscar Wilde's quotation about the city, which can be found at the front of the work. This story follows and English spy as he is sent to deliver a file of information on nuclear fall-out to a French doctor. In the publisher's original cloth with the original clipped dust wrapper. Externally excellent with minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and a slight lean. The dust wrap is in generally smart condition with chipping, the odd tear and creasing to the extremities. Sunning to the spine. Minor handling marks to the fly leaves. Internally firmly bound with clean bright pages. Contemporary gift inscription to half title.
