This wonderfully presented pair of novels are both First Editions, in original publisher's cloth binding and original unclipped dust wrappers. D. G. Holliday is a retired technologist whose strong interest in the Great War and the Second World War began when he discovered the world's first tanks were built in Lincoln, not far from the village he grew up in. These particular works are set in slightly different times, with Damage set between 1917 and 1918. This novel features an Army Chaplain who receives many injuries during the Great War, with Holliday using this Chaplain's experiences to reflect on the war and its impact. 1934 explores the question of what caused the Second World War. It features a character labelled an 'optimist' and another labelled a 'pessimist', depicting both approaches in the years preceding the Second World War. With an ink inscription by the author to the front endpaper of 1934 saying ' To John F, With Best Wishes, Don H' dated 26.05.17. There is another inscription to the title page of Damage stating 'To John, With Best Wishes, Don H' dated Oct '14. In original publisher's cloth binding with original unclipped dust wrappers. Externally, lovely, with very minor shelf wear. Inscription to front endpaper of 1934. Dust wrappers in excellent condition, with minor shelf wear. Internally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
