Nadine Gordimer was a South African writer and political activist who received the Nobel Prize in LIterature in 1991 to recognise the benefit her work has been to humanity. She was active in the African National Congress and often advised Nelson Mandela. Occasion for Loving is one of Gordimer's works which deals with the issue of apartheid. The work follows the story of a married white woman, Ann Davis, who falls in love with Gideon Shibalo, who is black and therefore their relationship is against the law.
