A very scarce to see set of three issues of the University of Birmingham's rag, 'Carnival', for the years 1932, 1935, and 1937.1935 is the second edition.In their original bright decorative wraps.Birmingham's rag was published from October 1926 until 1958. This rag, 'Carnival', was a cheap magazine sold by students to members of the public during Rag Week, which took place annually around Shrove Tuesday.Birmingham's 'Carnival' rag raid is one of the largest and most successful in the country. 'Carnival' contains a variety of anonymously-contributed contents, including adverts, stories, and cartoons. Often the contents were offensive or irreverent to authorities, with rags and rag weeks of various universities' becoming controversial in the first half of the twentieth century due to their perceived antisocial behaviour. In the original publisher's paper wraps. Externally, smart. Light age-toning and spots to the wraps, including some discolouration due to the staples rusting. Spots heavier to the wraps of 1935. Very minor creasing to the wraps. Internally, 1935 and 1937 are firmly bound, textblock of 1932 detached from the wraps. Pages are bright and clean, with only a few occasional spots. Very Good .
