Five volumes. The Letter-Books of the City of London are a series of fifty folio volumes in vellum containing entries on matters that concerned the City of London beginning 1275 and concluding in 1509. The books, written in scores of varying hands, are not in strict chronological sequence, but speak in detail of the business habits of Chamberlains of the City of London and Common Clerks in the times of the Plantagenets, and contain entries in English, French, and Latin. The present set is comprised of the following:Letter Book B, circa AD 1275-1312; C, circa AD 1291-1309; D, circa AD 1309-1314; E, circa AD 1314-1337; I, circa AD 1400-1422.  In the original publisher's uniform full cloth bindings. Externally with bumping to head and tail of spine and extremities, light loss to head of spine Letter Book D and Letter Book I. Rear joint Letter Book D just starting at head, back strip gently lifting. D J Keene inscription and stamps to endpapers, dated 1983. Guildhall Library London bookplate to front pastedown Letter Book D and I, with usual library stamps throughout. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
