The first state binding with the title blind-stamped to the front board, and the spine lettering originally in gilt, now faded. Illustrated with two leaves of black and white star charts. Collated, complete. Sir Henry Rider Haggard (1856-1925) was an English author who specialised in adventure fiction set in exotic locations, primarily Africa. He was a pioneer of the lost world literary genre. This work concerns the adventures of Bastin, Bickley, and Arbuthnot as they travel to the South Sea island of Orofena. Printer's imprint with code F140.219 to the verso of page 347. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, faded to the boards and spine and bumped to the extremities. Gilt to spine lettering has faded to brown, and some is missing. Internally, firmly bound.
