One volume is an introduction and translation, while the other contains facsimiles of the actual Domesday Book portion on Surrey.This facsimile volume is illustrated throughout, and includes two loosely inserted folding colour maps, held in a pocket to the front pastedown. Collated, complete.The Domesday Book was a manuscript of the 'Great Survey' of much of England and Wales completed in 1086 by order of King William the Conqueror. It was written in Medieval Latin and included some vernacular native terms without Latin equivalents. In the publisher's original quarter cloth bindings, with paper covered boards. Held in a paper covered slip case. Base of slip case detached at three joints. Light marks to back strips of two volumes. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright. Near Fine .
