Originally intended as a short sketch, Galt was persuaded by the publisher to expand the work into a three volume novel, with the early chapters concerning Wylie's childhood viewed as largely autobiographical. The work of Scottish novelist John Galt. As the first novelist to deal with issues of the industrial revolution, he has been termed the first political novelist in the English language.With the bookplate of Rev. Charles Dymoke Willaume to front pastedowns. In half calf bindings, with marbled paper covered boards. Light rubbing to back strip heads and tails, with loss of leather most concentrated to volume I tail. Volume III joints starting, with back strip detaching to front joint. Boards firmly held. Front hinges strained, but firmly held. Bookplate to front pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned due to paper type, but generally clean, with instances of light spotting to page perimeters. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
