The History of the Discovery and Conquest of the Canary Islands is divided into three parts, with the first being a translation of a manuscript by an Andalusian monk called Juan Abreu de Galindo which had been discovered in Palma. The second section acts as an ethnographical account of the indigenous people of the island and the third a description of the archipelago. Written by George Glas, a Scottish Seaman and merchant, who commanded a ship which traded between Brazil, the northwest coast of Africa and the Canary Islands. Glas and his family were murdered whilst on a ship heading to England, with many speculating that Robert Louis Stevenson based elements of his novel Treasure Island on the murder of the Glas family.
