Description: London, Edward Moxon, 1838. Cloth. A very scarce collection of the correspondence Sir Thomas Hanmer, 4th Baronet, with a memoir of his life. A very scarce work, rebound in a cloth binding. Ink inscriptions to pages 448 and 509. Illustrated with a folding plate depicting the pedigree of the Hamner family. Sir Thomas Hanmer, 4th Baronet (1677-1746) was Speaker of the House of Commons of Great Britain from 1714 to 1715. He was the unfortunate subject of much gossip after his second wife eloped with Thomas Hervey. He is, however, best remembered as an early editor of the works of William Shakespeare. This work, compiled by the historian Sir Henry Edward Bunbury, 7th Baronet (1778-1860), contains a brief biography of Hamner, his correspondence, an extract from his account of France in 1648, miscellaneous correspondence, a memoir of Charles Lee and poetry by H. F. R. Soame. Rebound in a cloth binding. Externally in excellent condition. The date to the spine label is incorrect. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are mostly bright with the odd spot throughout.
