Description: Napoli, Museo Reale Borbonico, 1854. Leather. An early edition of this uncommon volume which reproduces the art excavated at Herculaneum, Pompeii, and Stabia in line drawing. Published by the Museo Reale Borbonico, this work is comprised of line drawings that reproduce the most interesting paintings and mosaics discovered in the Royal Excavations of Herculaneum, Pompeii, and Stabia. A few of the illustrations have been attractively hand-coloured by a previous owner, and several of the earlier illustrations have English captions in ink. Prior owner's ink inscription to the front endpaper, 'Stella Permeneu, 1924' In a quarter calf binding over green cloth boards. Externally, sound. Lightly rubbed to the front board, less so to the rear. Rubbed to the front and rear joints, particularly the front joint which has a crack extending from half way down to the tail of the spine. The spine is missing a little calf to the head, and about a centimetre to the tail. The extremities are rather bumped and worn. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly foxed with some marginalia in ink to the first half of the volume. Good . Ill.: Various. Good .
