Volume one of a twelve-volume set in a full calf prize-binding with gilt decoration to the spine, boards and square, and the gilt crest of King's School, Bruton, to the front board. With marbled end papers and edges. Binder's stamp of the Relfe Brothers to the verso of the front free end paper. Ink inscription to the first blank page by the Headmaster of King's School, Bruton, awarding this book as a prize in 1906. Volume one of a twelve-volume set containing the works of Heinrich Heine (1797-1856), a German writer who is considered the last poet of Romantic era. This volume includes 'Buch der Leider' (Book of Songs) and 'Poetische Nachlese' (Poetic Gleanings), with an introduction by Stephan Born which encompasses the biographical, literary and historical aspects of the work. Undated, dated through copies held at HathiTrust Library. In a full calf prize-binding. Externally in excellent condition, apart from a little fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound.
