Lindsay was a British diplomat who was Ambassador to Turkey, Germany and the United States.François-René, viscount of Chateaubriand (1768-1848), was one of the most influential pre-Romanticism writers of his generation. Atala was a popular novella which reflected the 18th century French Romanticism of his time. It was first published in 1801. René, another novella, also had a great influence on early Romanticism. It was first published in 1802. Le Dernier Abencérage, or The Adventures of the Last Abencerage, was a short story first published in 1826. They are collected in this volume, written in the original French, with a facsimile letter from the author bound in with Atala; four etchings by Ricardo de Los Rios (1846-1929); and fourteen vignettes by Frédéric Régamey (1849-1925). Collated, complete. In a half morocco binding. Externally smart, though extremities and spine are lightly rubbed. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are a little age toned but clean. Very Good Indeed .
