These volumes contain a collection of these historical fiction novellas. With five novellas to volume one and nine to volume two. Some of the stories that appear in the first volume are L'Invasion, La Guerre and Confidences d'un Jouer de Clarinette. The second volume has a title page and frontispiece for Histoire D'un Paysan which is dated 1869 and starts the second part of Romans Nationaux and is dated 1871. Some of the stories in volume two are Le Blocus, L'illustre Docteur Matheus and Waterloo. With many in-text illustrations. Page 95 to part two is torn in volume two. In quarter leather with cloth boards. Externally, a little worn with rubbing to the spines and joints and library stickers to the tails of the spines. With marks to the boards.
