A very scarce work in the publisher's original pictorial paper wraps. Ink inscription to the half title page. Nicholas of Cusa (1401-1464), also known as Nicolaus Cusanus, was a famous German cardinal, philosopher, theologian, mathematician, and astronomer. His most notable work is De Docta Ignorantia, in which he maintains that humankind cannot fully comprehend the divine, but may achieve "learned ignorance". This work contains extracts from his Idiota de mente (The Idiot, or The Layman on Mind), concerning wisdom, in four books. This work was reprinted from the 1650 edition, and is now very scarce.
