A very scarce play called 'The White Lady of Blacknels', to be acted by three children for the entertainment of their mother, signed by the author Baron Tollendal. A very scarce work in a quarter calf binding. Inscribed by the author to the half title page, to Lady Stuart of Rothsay, the English Ambassador to the Court of France. Thomas Arthur, Comte de Lally, Baron de Tollendal (1702-1766) was a French general. During the Seven Years' War, he commanded French forces in India. He was beheaded for his alleged failures in India, but later publicly exonerated by Louis XVI. This work is a play written by him, for family entertainment, to be acted by three children for their mother. In a quarter calf binding. Externally, somewhat rubbed to the spine, with some shelf wear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with a scattering of spots to the first and last few pages, and a faint tidemark to the first several pages. Very Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Very Good .
