Following the July Revolution of 1830 Guizot worked to sustain the constitutional monarchy, before serving as the Minister of Education in the under Louis Phillipe where he succeeded in setting up primary schools in every French commune. He served as Prime Minister from 1847 until the 1848 Revolution, and is even mentioned in the famous opening paragraph of the Communist Manifesto as a representative of the reactionary forces of Old Europe. Marx and Engels published the manifesto just days before Guizot's overthrow in the 1848 Revolution. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. From the library of John M. Fraherne . In a quarter calf binding over patterned boards. Externally, smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards and the spine, with a little rubbing to the head and tail of the spine. A little bumped to the extremities. The rear hinge is starting, but firm. Internally, firmly bound.
