An uncommon work, published in French. With a binder's sticker to the front pastedown. The volume was bound by R. Flatman in Clapham. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. From the library of Cyril Flower, the First Baron of Battersea, whose motto 'Flores Curat Deus', meaning 'God cares for the flowers' can be found to the crest on the bookplate. Flower was a British Liberal politician, serving as MP for Brecon from 1880 until the constituency was abolished in 1885. He was also president of the National Education Association in 1902, when the association was heavily involved in the debating the Education Bill. As well as being a patron of the arts, he enjoyed friendships with the author Henry James and the painter Edward Burne-Jones. In a quarter calf binding over burgundy patterned boards. Externally, generally smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards and the extremities, a little more so to the head of the spine. Internally, firmly bound, with bright and clean pages. Very Good .
