Published in Latin and Greek. William Jacobson discusses the first three Apostolic Fathers in these two leather bound volumes published in Latin and Greek. The Apostolic fathers, also known as the Ante-Nicene Fathers, were core Christian theologians who lived in the first and second centuries. Their writings were widely circulated in early Christianity, but did not enter the canon of the New Testament despite deriving from the same time period and geographical locations as those works that did. In the present volumes, Jacobson analyses the writings of Clement of Rome, Ignatius of Antioch, and Polycarp of Smyrna. Jacobson was Professor of Divinity at Oxford University between 1848 and 1865, after which he became the Bishop of Chester, a position he held until his death.
