Description: London, William Hone, 1820. Unbound. A scarce satirical pamphlet by William Hone and George Cruikshank. The fourteenth edition of this scarce pamphlet, not often seen in commerce but found in various editions in numerous institutional libraries such as the British Library, Trinity College Dublin Library and the library at the University of Cambridge to name a few.Complete with sixteen leaves including advertising leaf to rear and two leaves of a prose piece titled 'Strayed and Missing.' With vignette illustrations by celebrated cartoonist George Cruikshank. Satirical pamphlet concerned with King George IV and his Queen consort Caroline. Written and published by William Hone, English writer, satirist, and bookseller, known for his passionate fight for British press freedom. In 1817 he published 'Reformists' Register' to criticise state abuses, which he later attacked in the famous political squibs and parodies illustrated by Cruikshank. These publications caused him to be prosecuted numerous times officially due to being 'harmful to public morals,' but clearly due to his ridiculing of the habits and exposing of the corruption of those in power. Unbound. Rear blank leaf may detach with further handling, otherwise text block bound firmly. Odd spotting to odd leaf, pages otherwise generally bright and clean. Very Good . Ill.: George Cruikshank. Very Good .
