A first edition of Henry Anderson Bryden's work on wildlife and hunting in Britain. Collated but lacking the plates called for at pages 7, 12, 28, and 29. Bryden's writings on travel, nature, and his hunting experiences allowed him to become a professional writer after enjoying careers as both a solicitor and a rugby player. In this volume, he describes his experiences hunting quails, bustards, heron, hares, and foxes in different locations across Britain. Prior owner's pencil inscription to the recto of the front endpaper, 'Gervase Wheeler, Eversley Court, Eastbourne&apos. With a sticker from 'W.H.Smith & Son's Library' in London to the rear pastedown. Rebound in a quarter calf binding over red cloth boards. Externally, generally smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards, with a little bumping and wear to the extremities. The front joint is beginning to crack near the head and tail of the spine, less so to the rear joint. The spine is missing a little calf to the head. The front hinge is starting, but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound, although the half title and a page of the index to the rear are a little loose. With light scattered foxing throughout the volume. Good . Ill.: J. Coster. Good .
