Throughout the 17th and 18th centuries the Company colonised parts of Southeast Asia and Hong Kong, and seized control over large parts of India. During its height in the mid-1700s the Company was the largest corporation in the world, trading in cotton, silk, sugar, salt, spices, tea, and opium.Volume I covers 1600 to 1660-61, Volume II covers 1660-61 to 1688-89, Volume III covers 1688-89 to 1707-08. Written by John Bruce, who was historiographer to to the East India Company from 1801. In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, front board of Volume I, rear board of Volume II, and both boards of Volume III are detached but present, front board of Volume II is almost detached, held by one cord only. Rubbing to the boards and spines, resulting in a little loss of leather to the extremities, loss a little heavier to the head of the front board of Volume II. Loss to the head and tail of the spines, heavier to the tail of Volume III. Minor bumping to the extremities. Rear joint of Volume I is cracked. Small puncture marks to the tail of the spine of Volume I. Rear hinge of Volume I is a little strained. Heavy damp stain to the rear paste down and rear endpaper of Volume I. Mark to the front paste down and front endpaper of Volume II. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age-toned with some spotting, Volume III is a little less age-toned. Front endpaper, half-title, and title page of Volume I are detaching. Section of the head of the title pages are excised, with an ink inscription to the head. Heavy damp stain to the last few pages of Volume I. Dampstain to the tail of the text of Volume II. Front endpaper and half-title of Volume III are detached with the front board. Good Only .
