Richard Ford was an English travel writer and is best known for his books on Spain. This scarce set has three illustrations across the volumes, and a folding map to the rear of volume I Ford first travelled to Spain in 1830, and wrote an account of his journey upon his return to England. First published in 1845, the work is considered a masterpiece of the travel literature genre, with chapters on Andalucia, Catalonia, and the Basque Provinces. From the library of Doctor Malcolm Higgs, an important architectural historian who worked as an assistant architect to Stirling & Gowan, working on their particularly renowned Leicester University Engineering Laboratory. During his long career he taught at the University of Edinburgh School of Architecture, Canterbury School of Architecture, and University of Nottingham. Later in his life he was the Vice-President and Honorary Librarian of the Royal Institute of British Architects, and contributed and edited the "Journal of Architecture".
