With a folding frontispiece to the start of the work.A lovely copy of French-English lexicographer Abel Boyer's dictionary, which was first published in 1699. This work is presented in two parts, bound together, with individual title pages, printed in red and black ink.Part I consists of Boyer's French-English dictionary, and volume II of the English to French dictionary.With the armorial bookplate of Rev. Charles Lyttleton to the front pastedown. Lyttleton was Bishop of Carlisle from 1762-1768, and President of the Society of Antiquaries from 1765-1768. He was a close friend of Horace Walpole at Eton and together with George Montagu described themselves as the triumvirate. With the inscription of Lyttleton, dated 1732, to a front blank.With the bookplate of Richard Luckett also to the front pastedown. Luckett was a lecturer in seventeenth century literature at Cambridge University, and held the post of Pepys Librarian for thirty years. ESTC Citation No. N38663A bright copy of this work. Rebacked, in a full calf binding, with original boards restored and black strip laid down. With spine label renewed. Externally, excellent. Ink mark to fore edge of text block.
