Collated, complete. W. S. Gilbert was an English dramatist and illustrator, best known for his fourteen comic operas in collaboration with the composer Arthur Sullivan. Ruddigore is tenth of this series.Ruddigore is one of the Savoy Operas, first performed in the Savoy Theatre in 1887. Prior owner's book plates to the first free endpaper and first pastedown. From the library of William Roughead, a well known Scottish lawyer. Gifted to Robert Mackenzie Marshall in 1928, with an ink inscription from Roughead and Marshall's book plate to the first free endpaper. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, very smart. There is some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. The spine is slightly faded, and there are some marks to the boards. Prior owner's book plates to the pastedown and first free endpaper and prior owner's ink inscription from 1928. Internally, firmly bound.
