Griset's illustrations in the  American edition were reviewed by Harper's Magazine as 'full of life, and of a certain grim and grotesque humor, without being any where vulgar, debasing, or bloody&apos. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, exceptionally bright, with light bumping to spine head and tail. Front hinge lightly strained, but firmly held.
