As well as portraying British intelligence agents as political functionaries, le Carré also dwells on the moral ambiguity of spy work as his characters become entangled in Cold War espionage. These two novels follow George Smiley as he endeavours to root out a mole and entrap his Soviet counterpart, Karla. In the publisher's original cloth binding, found in the unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart, with some light bumping to the head and tail of the spine of The Honourable Schoolboy. There are six pieces of masking tape to the folds at the reverse of the wrap of The Honourable Schoolboy to prevent wear and tear, and a very small tear in the wrap at the front joint.
