As well as discussing the sculptor's close ties with Sheffield, Holland also discusses Chantrey's time in London and the works he produced there, most notably, the statue of King George IV in Trafalgar Square. Holland also discusses Chantrey's portrait painting and pencil sketches. Prior owner's name sticker to the front pastedown, 'Dr. C. Brodie Sewell&apos. The 19th century doctor practised in London, and the Wellcome collection has several journals Sewell wrote on holidays in Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, and Austria-Hungary. Binder's sticker to the rear pastedown. Bound by 'Westleys & Co. Friar Street, London&apos. In the publisher's original brown cloth binding. Externally, sound. Rubbed to the boards and the spine, with some light wear towards the extremities. The cloth is torn at the rear joint so that the it flaps away from the spine. Lightly bumped to the head and tail of the spine, with a tiny bit of loss to the tail. Front hinge starting, and a little tender.
