In the armorial binding of Louis XIV, with his coat of arms in gilt to the front and rear board.Louis XIV was the King of France from 1643 to 1715, a beloved King who became known as the Sun King. Most notably Louis pioneered the building and design of the inimitable Palace of Versailles.A very scarce work.In Latin.Half-title is present. Register runs as *-**4, A-Hhh4, Iii5.A Latin treatise by George Kodinos, written between 1347 to 1368. 'De Officiis Magnae Ecclesiae et Aulae Constantinopolitanae' explores the court and higher ecclesiastical dignities and ceremonies up to the middle Palaiologan period.An interesting and very detailed study on the Byzantine Empire and the history of Constantinople.George Kodinos is attributed as the author of this and two other works on the Byzantine Empire, though little is known about him. In a calf binding with armorial gilt to the boards, rebacked with the original boards restored, and a new spine. Externally, boards are worn with loss and discolouration to the original boards. Minor bumping to the extremities. Prior owner's pencil mark to the paste downs, with a small amount of wear to the paste downs. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with some spotting. Tide mark from the title page to page 43, reappearing a little fainter throughout the text. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
