The 26th Regiment of Foot was an infantry regiment of the Scots Army, and later a Scottish infantry regiment of the British Army, active from 1689 to 1881. The regiment took the name of its first colonel, becoming popularly known as the Cameronians until 1751, when it was ranked as the 26th Foot. With sections discussing the period and circumstances of the regiment's original formation, the stations at which they were employed, and the battles, sieges and military operations they were engaged in. The volume also names all the regiments officers and privates, and enumerates their achievements, colours, and badges, as well as commemorating those lost in battle. The bottom corner of the front endpaper is missing. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front free endpaper. In the publisher's original red cloth binding. Externally, rather worn. Rubbed to the boards. The cloth at the bottom edge has come away from the front board. There is a large tear to the rear joint, and small chips in the cloth to the front joint. The spine is rubbed, with a little loss of cloth to the tail. The front hinge has failed. Internally, generally firmly bound. The binding is generally firm, although the first thirty pages are a little tender, and page xv is disbound but present. Pages are bright and clean throughout. Fair . Ill.: Not Stated. Fair .
