The Anti-Jacobin was a weekly English newspaper founded in 1797 in opposition to what was seen as the radicalism of the French Revolution. Many of the poems found in this collection are humorous in nature; strongly satirising the state of affairs both abroad and at home. Despite only being published for a year, it was highly influential, as the British political scene was outraged by the killing of Louis XVI. Poems included in this collection are, 'Brissot's Ghost', 'Ode to Lord Moira', 'The Soldier's Friend', 'Sonnet to Liberty', 'Ode to Anarchy', and more. The half title page is present. With the previous owner's bookplate to the front paste-down. In a half calf binding. Externally, a trifle rubbed. Rubbing to the extremities. Cracks to the front joint and lower rear joint. Small amount of loss to the spine and front board. Marks to the boards. Previous owner's bookplate to the front paste-down. Hinges starting but still firm. Ink number and light spotting to the reverse of the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age-toned but otherwise very bright and clean with just the odd spot. Good .
