Divided into sixteen chapters, Allen's work discusses the Tower of London, the history of the metropolis, prisons, exhibitions, places of public entertainment, and religious edifices.A detailed insight into London in the first half of the nineteenth century. In a half calf binding, with paper covered board. Rubbing to back strip head and tail, joints and board perimeters, resulting in small losses to the leather. Further losses to paper covering of each board. Hinges strained, but generally firmly held. Lacking front free endpaper. Pencil inscriptions to front pastedown and rear free endpaper.
