Two of British satirist and writer William Hone's popular works concerned with a miscellany of subjects, forming a humorous and complete year-book with anecdotes, poems, advertisements and sporting information.These, along with the 'Every-Day Book,' are the works Hone is best remembered by. Each illustrated with frontispiece and further vignettes in text.From the library of Lord Raglan, Fitzroy John Somerset. Raglan"s great-great-grandfather was Field Marshal Fitzroy Somerset, 1st Baron Raglan and hero of the Battle at Inkerman and Alma in the Crimean War. He also served as military secretary to the Duke of Wellington. He died in the Crimea in 1855. The house in which the library was situated, Cefn Tilla Court, was purchased by the Raglan Memorial committee for his descendants. Lord Raglan was a keen collector of anthropology and folklore, with many of the works in his extensive library focusing upon this topic. In the original publisher's uniform full cloth bindings. Externally a trifle rubbed with shelf wear, bumped to extremities of boards and spine, back strip o 'Year Book' lifting to front joint exposing binding material and part f the headband, back strip 'Table Bok' now laid down. Sticker to front pastedown over previous ownership ink inscription. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean. Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Good .
