A smart copy of this nineteenth-century novel, 'Destiny; or, The Chief's Daughter&apos. The first edition of this work. Complete in three uniformly and smartly bound volumes. Written by Susan Edmonstone Ferrier, a Scottish novelist whose novels combine humour with vivid accounts of Scottish social life and sharp views on marriage and female education. Ferrier also penned two other novels, 'Marriage' and 'The Inheritance&apos. 'Destiny' was Ferrier's third and final novel, published by Robert Cadell, who paid £1,700 in 1831 for the rights to publish it.  In contemporary half calf with marbled boards. Externally, smart, with some rubbing to the heads and tails of the spines and extremities, particularly to Volume II. A partially removed sticker to the front board of Volume II. Internally, front hinge of Volume I lightly strained. Remaining binding is firm. Some light spotting to the first and last few pages of each volume, with a few spots throughout, otherwise pages are bright and clean. Very Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Very Good .
