Published anonymously although widely accredited to the English author and printseller, James Caufield. Oliver Cromwell is one of the most controversial and formidable figures in British history. He was intensely religious and political, being a Member of Parliament before rising to the status of a military commander in 1642, the year in which this interesting biography begins. He was one of the men who signed the death warrant of King Charles I in 1649, before becoming one of the leaders of the Commonwealth of England.
