Jean Froissart, often referred to as John Froissart, was one of the most important chroniclers of Medieval France. Froissart's Chronicles are a 14th-century history of the Hundred Years' War. The Chronicles start by describing events leading up to the deposition of King Edward II in 1326, and continue up to 1400, recounting events in western Europe. While they contain some errors, the Chronicles are vitally important to the understanding of 14-century chivalric culture. Translated from the French by Thomas Johnes, with a life of the author, an essay on his works, and a criticism of his history. Accompanied by numerous engravings, and a colour title page to Volume I. In full calf bindings. Externally very smart, with only a little rubbing to the joints and extremities. A couple of marks to the rear board of Vol I. Small losses to the spine label of Vol II, not affecting the lettering. Front hinge to Vol I is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed . Ill.: Not Stated. Very Good Indeed .
