Walter Hindes Godfrey (1881–1961), was an architect, antiquary, and architectural and topographical historian, who was regarded as one of the outstanding conservation architects of his generation. In this work he focuses on English staircases, from the Medieval to the Georgian periods, with chapters on balustrades. 4 pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally mostly smart; colour and gilt remains bright to the boards, but a little faded and marked to the spine. Tear to the rear joint and light wear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with some spotting to the first and last few pages, and to the fore edge, affecting the occasional page. Very Good . Ill.: Horace Dan. Very Good .
